Is there a warrant out for your arrest?

Michigan Warrants LawyerWhen a warrant is issued for a person's arrest, it is a serious matter that requires immediate attention.  A warrant is issued by the court authorizing the person named on the warrant to be arrested.  There can be many reasons for a warrant, but the primary ones include:

  • Probation Violations
  • Failure to Appear before the court on a scheduled hearing or appointment
  • Failure to pay court-ordered restitution
  • Failure to pay a fine
  • Failure to comply with court-ordered mandatory counseling or classes
  • Being a suspect in a crime

Types of Warrants

  • Bench Warrant: This type of warrant gives permission and instruction for any law enforcement official to arrest the named person listed on the warrant on order of the court, usually for failure to appear in court. The law enforcement official is instructed to bring the suspect to court to face the judge.
  • Arrest Warrant: A police officer or prosecutor will provide a complaint to a judge of a suspected crime. The judge will issue an arrest warrant if they have evidence enough to direct suspicion of a person’s guilt.
  • Search Warrant: Search and seizure is a term often used to describe this warrant. A judge will issue this type of warrant if there is evidence sufficient to make them believe that there is more evidence wherever it is the warrant dictates it to be. Oftentimes, a criminal defense attorney can help recall search warrants because of the faulty procedures taken by officers in order to obtain them.
